Use this long E poem to help the students remember and understand what sound long E makes.

Long E Centers
Starfall Long E:
Students will read along with the interactive online book Pete’s Sheep. Once they have finished they will use the worksheet provided to recreate their favorite part of the story. A teacher can dictate what the students’ favorite part is on the paper if a teacher is available. If a teacher is not available the students can simply write the picture and do their best to write the words on the sheet.
I Spy Long E:
Using the worksheet provided the students will go around the room locating all of the words that have the long E vowel in them. These words will be written on sticky notes and placed around the room before the students get there on Monday morning. After the students have found all of the words and filled out their worksheet they can turn over their paper and draw a picture of at least three of the words they found on their I Spy search.
Reading Long E Book:
The students will sit together in small groups with a teacher and read the book together out loud. After each page is read the group will stop and tell the teacher which words on that page had a long E in them. The students will then highlight the word in the book. Once the students are done reading the book they will be given paper and markers. The expectation is that the students draw their favorite part of the book and copy the sentence from it. They must also on the back think of at least three other long E words.
Long A Shopping List:
The students will be given an array of different words and pictures of words that have the short A and words that do not. They must look at all the pictures and words and pick which ones have the long E in them to put on their “shopping list.” After they are done they can go shopping for other long E items that in the classroom once they find something they must add it to their sheet.
